Sónar is a festival founded in 1994 that turned Barcelona into the electronic and experimental music capital of Europe. Sónar’s commitment to experimentation attracted a crowd of science lovers, techies and artists from other realms, which eventually led to the launch of Sonar+D in 2012: a section of the festival devoted to the latest advancements in science applied to artistic expression through installations, talks, exhibitions, displays and networking events. SonarMàtica by Tezos, the festival’s new exhibition area, will feature 6 Virtual Reality (VR) pieces and 6 audiovisual installations. Among these pieces, ‘Carbolytics’ by Joana Moll and ‘Not An NFT’ by Barcelona Supercomputing Center stand out. There’s also ‘Botto’ — an algorithm and decentralised ‘artist’ using blockchain technology created by Mario Klingemann — and the interactive installation ‘Face2Wikipedia’ by Andreas Refsgaard, both great examples of the creative use of Artificial Intelligence. All 34 minted Bottos will be exhibited in Barcelona in custom-made 1:1 displays. Attendees will also be able to participate in the voting experience through the our voting app demo that we’ve provided exhibitions since Vellum LA.
